The Medisim centre was been established at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in 2010. Since then, our distinguished clinical faculty and technical team have been delivering a high quality and innovative simulation service to hundreds of clinicians, healthcare professionals and medical students with a wider reputation as a simulation hub throughout the region of Kent Surrey and Sussex.
In our sim lab based in the education centre we are able to deliver simulation-based education in medicine, anaesthesia, intensive care, paediatrics, obstetrics, midwifery, emergency medicine, primary care and psychiatry. We also provide regular in-situ high fidelity simulation sessions in various clinical areas within the Trust.
Our permanent faculty includes consultants from many specialities, registrars, simulation fellows and foundation doctors. We also have many visiting faculty from different clinical and academic backgrounds and close links with the University of Surrey. We have a team of highly skilled technicians and state of the art facilities including top of the range high fidelity manikins. We are proud to be one of the first centres in Europe to be able to use the ASL lung developed by IngMar Medical. This integrated solution allows us to have a highly realistic spontaneously breathing patient for everything from simple patient assessment scenarios up to and including very complex respiratory disorders and ventilatory problems.
In addition we have a comprehensive library of part-task trainers that include multiple forms of venous access, joint aspirations/injections, airway training (including FONA), epidurals, chest drains, IO access and urinary catheterisation. We are continually updating and adding to this resource so please contact us for more information if required.
The Medisim centre is active in QI and research. We have been successful in submitting multiple abstracts for oral presentation at international and national simulation and education conferences, and our team have recently published articles in academic journals specialising in medical education.
