Supervising Research Registrars
We are constantly looking for senior Anaesthetic and/or Intensive Care research fellows who may be interested in exciting and developmental opportunities. The jobs are aimed at a senior trainees with an interest in developing their research experience and with the possibility of working towards a higher degree (MD/PhD) whilst maintaining their clinical skills and also taking on a leadership role. The posts are available for an initial 6 months but may be extended by mutual agreement. Many SSRs stay with us for a year or more to complete projects and quality improvement initiatives. Applicants should be ST 5-7 Anaesthetists with the FRCA (or equivalent) and have an interest in critical care/peri-operative medicine/anaesthesia research.
SPACeR has developed a rolling program of research fellowships at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in a variety of areas associated with anaesthesia, intensive care and peri-operative medicine.
Posts will be aimed at people who may wish to develop their own research interests or seek to undertake projects, and fellows will be encouraged to develop any project into a format that may take them to a higher degree such as MD or PhD where possible.
We have a number of researchers with projects at various stages at anyone time and spreading across the whole area that SPACeR represents.

There are a range of potential roles:
- Intensive care research: AKI, muscle wasting, haemodynamic optimisation, microcirculation…
- Peri-operative research including CPET and continuous lactate monitoring
- Major oncological anaesthesia, including upper GI
- Advanced/difficult airway management
- Simulation including in situ sim
- Quality improvement
Clinical fellow post-holders have previously prospectively applied for and successfully gained recognition of these fellowship posts for training from the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
